Families Belong Together Movement

Capitol Building | Austin, TX - Rally For Immigrant Families
Community members from all ways of life gathered at Austin's State Capitol Building on Friday, June 14, 2018. It was a time that brought folks together with one common goal, to speak out against the separation of children from their family when being processed for deportation.
Daniela Rojas (pictured above-left) member of Jolt, a Texas-based multi-issue organization that builds the political power and influence of Latinos in our democracy, shared her story of being a dreamer. A dreamer who lives her day to day in fear of her parents being taken away. She encouraged the crowd to imagine living in a state of mind where every day you have to worry that it may be the last time you see your family. What it would be like to be all alone in this new reality?
We also heard from a physician, who expressed the types of psychological and emotional stresses that separating children from their families place on the children themselves. It is important to hear and be part of these stories as they encompass struggles among our community.
